The second Street Ritual release from West Coast producer Nico Luminous wraps gorgeous ambient textures around a dizzying array of bubbling bass, exotic riffs, and 8-bit funk. Moving swiftly between haunting samples and intricate sound design, Nico takes us to a journey beyond his physical relocation from Portland to LA; an emotional landscape of beautifully fragile human elements laced up in a strong, synthetic framework. Tasteful glitching is sprinkled throughout the title track, with well-crafted space weaving together hypnotic arps and deep, reverberant atmospheres. The sweet voice of Reva Devito embraces “Speaker Box”, holding tight its jazzy Rhodes and warm bass throbs in a vocoded hug. “Love Sets You Free” is equally uplifting, with classic dreamy swells, watercolor vocal washes and trancey riffs. A bit of carnival-esque world beat comes to life in the crisp and meticulously edited “Gypsy Bitz”, splattered with video-game stabs and sharp wobbles. Finally, the cinematic journey of “Heavy Heart” proves a worthy finish to this richly textured EP.
